The only private town in Colombia
The town of Cauca Viejo was founded in 1998 as a result of a private initiative by Antioquian Rodrigo Restrepo Puerta (RIP), his son Andrés Restrepo, and his wife Adriana Toro, who are currently the owners of the Hotel Fundadores Cauca Viejo.
Today, Pueblo Cauca Viejo operates as a private, residential, and tourist development, comprised of our Hotel De Cauca Viejo Fundadores and around 190 beautiful private homes, some of which are rented for a unique experience.
It features a cobblestone central plaza, adorned with a beautiful fountain and benches shaded by large saman trees, ceibas, and mango trees. The chapel, with its immaculate white façade, is inspired by the Basilica of Salamina, Caldas, winner of the National Architecture Prize.
Its whitewashed mansions, with colorful plinths, windows, and balconies adorned with curaçao flowers, frame its narrow cobblestone streets. The gates and rear gates evoke the houses of Antioquia's villages and invite you to experience the Paisa tradition in a dreamy, exclusive, and small town that feels like a living museum.
The town is located on the banks of the Cauca River, between the central and western mountain ranges. It features a lush ecological trail along the riverbank, which crosses the crystalline Cruces Gorge and reaches a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the Cauca River Canyon.
Cauca Viejo has two inns. One is inspired by the Villa de Medellín Station of the Antioquia Railway, while the other is a replica of a traditional sugar cane mill. The town also has tennis courts, a soccer field, and a volleyball court, among other sports facilities.
